MCA Management Message - August 2008 (re-printed from Aug - Sep edition of News & Views)
It remains a very busy time at MCA with many projects underway. In the case of CR 486 widening, the county administration has accepted MCA’s proposed landscape plan as a replacement for the county’s proposed concrete barriers. Legal documents are being prepared and details will be provided when available. The change will be at no cost to MCA. Efforts continue on the potential MCA road turnover (Meadowcrest Meeting Tree – MacVicar) to the county. We are still awaiting engineering data and cost estimates to establish a position for further discussions with the county. Progress Energy has now indicated that 150 of the additional 200 miles of transmission lines required to support the new nuclear plants in Levy County will utilize existing transmission corridors, which will include the corridor adjacent to MCA’s east perimeter. Specifics have not been made available, but MCA is attempting to obtain such data to determine any potential impact within the MCA area. Citrus County Sheriff has advised that the crime rate in the county has had a significant increase, allegedly due to the deteriorating economy. He indicates it is particularly important for areas such as MCA for all residences and offices to lock their cars, house and office doors when not occupied. Please comply – we’ve had no problems within MCA and need to keep it that way. As a result of a security review, and need for improvement, MCA is considering proposals to install 24-hour surveillance cameras at the pool and clubhouse, and a new entrance card system which will record the name and time of access. You will be notified of any changes. The county sheriff has established a Code Red early warning system which will advise citizens of emergency situations (e.g., adverse weather, evacuations, boil water) by a telephone call to their home, business and/or cell phones. MCA residents and businesses are encouraged to register their phone number by calling 746-6555 or by clicking on code red at www.sheriffcitrus.org. It is free. On June 15th, as a result of the 3"-4" rain, a large sinkhole appeared in the MCA park between the lower tennis court and Fairmont residences. Inasmuch as it occurred, and was contained within a drainage retention are, the only action needed was to fill it in as required by County and Swiftmud regulations. No other property was involved.
