HILLCREST

President's Message - August 2010

(re-printed from Aug - Sep edition of News & Views)

A warm welcome is extended to Bill and Kathy Lemmer who recently purchased a house on Douneray. Best wishes as you get settled into your new home.

The Property Survey Committee conducted their annual review of residences on June 26 and the results were reviewed by the Board of Directors at their meeting on June 28th. Letters were mailed to those residents whose properties need to be brought up to acceptable standards as described in our Declaration of Covenants. The cited properties will be reviewed again in October, giving those residents a few months to make the needed corrections.

In regards to maintaining our yards and gardens, I’m sure that by now everyone is aware that SWIFTMUD has lifted the once a week watering ban and has approved watering for two times a week. As a result, watering days have changed for almost everyone. Even number addresses are on Thursday and Sunday, odd number addresses are on Wednesday and Saturday. Watering times are before 10 am and after 4 pm. Realizing that residents that are away for all of the summer will have set their automatic timers to the once a week schedule, and could be found to be watering on the wrong day, I contacted the office that handles the monitoring to make them aware of this situation. Hopefully, none of these homeowners will receive a fine.

Just recently I was asked to clarify items to be recycled with the Waste Management program. Boxes for items such as cereal and crackers can be recycled, but remember to remove the plastic liner. Styrofoam and plastic grocery bags are not recyclable. (Bags can be brought back to the grocery stores recycling bin). If you have a problem with items not being taken by Waste Management, please call me so we can resolve the issue.

At the June 28th Board of Directors meeting, Linda Frankum submitted her resignation as director, effective at the end of the meeting. Due to changing work schedules and increased work hours, Linda was not able to complete her term on the Board. Many thanks to Linda for her contributions to Hillcrest. Sheldon LaMountain was appointed by the Board to fill this vacancy, with the term expiring November 2011.

The Nominating Committee is presently working on filling the one opening on the Board of Directors for our Annual Meeting in November. Anyone interested in being considered for this position, to be placed on the ballot, please call Dick Evans.

Our next membership meeting is September 14, 2010 at 7:30 pm. Please put it on your calendar and plan to attend. If you can’t make the meeting, please return the proxy that you will receive with the meeting notice so that we can have a quorum.

Until then, enjoy the remaining summer.
