FAIRMONT VILLAGE President's Message - August 2010 (re-printed from Aug - Sep edition of News & Views)
Here we are in the middle of our summer heat. In the April News and Views I talked about our cold winter we just had. Sure could use some of that cold now. Enough about the weather. Now let’s talk about Fairmont Village. Our lawns took a beating this past winter but for the most part they have come back and look pretty good. I did receive several complaints about why our shrubs were not trimmed in the early spring as was done in the past. This was a decision made by our lawn and shrub committee and Earthscapes, our lawn company, to try to let the shrubs that were hurt by the winter freeze to come back to life. It did work and most of the shrubs that looked dead did in fact come back and did not need replacement. We did replace those that did not make it back. Our new mulch although more expensive certainly seems to be holding up much better than the cypress mulch that we used in the past. It`s not blowing or washing away. Our trees seem to be in good shape but if you have a tree in need of trimming please call Ralph Haley at 794-0278 for trees over 15 ft. and above or Stan Hunter 794-3371 for the trees 15 ft. and below. Our scheduled painting and power washing is done for the year but if you still need a small touchup please call George Zint 795-1558 to get on the list. I have received several complaints about speeding inside Fairmont Village. We do not have a posted speed limit but I think we need to use better judgment when driving inside our Village. Driving 25 mph on Foxboro Loop or Endicott Pt. is excessive. Please slow it down and ask your guests to do the same or we may be forced to install speed bumps which none of us want. Our power washing committee has gotten off to a good start. Several of our walls have been cleaned and the work will continue later this fall when it gets a little cooler. If you want to help, give me a call and I will get you hooked up with the committee. In the April News and Views I mentioned the fact that we had taken Greenbrier to court over the money owed to us for the mulch paid for and not delivered. We met in small claims court and Greenbrier agreed to pay us back $250 per month for the next 20 months for a total of $5000. I would like to thank the ladies on our flower committee who have done such a great job of keeping both entrances to Fairmont looking so bright and cheerful. They have spent a lot of time planting beautiful flowers and doing the weeding and deadheading that goes along with it. Great job! I would also like to thank the Fairmont Village Social Committee for the great party they ran in April. Over 50 people attended the party. If you missed it you missed a good one. It was a great time to socialize with neighbors and the food was great. I can’t wait until the next one. I hope you all enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to seeing all our snowbird neighbors returning this fall. Submitted by William Ryan
